Our Story
Olan Wellness is the culmination of a dream two longtime friends, Annie McKay and Olga Clavier have had for years about being in business together. They were searching for something that fit their shared passion for children, skin care products and entrepreneurship. Over that time many business ideas came and went but to no avail. Finally, one idea sparked the business and Olan Wellness was born.
ANNIE MCKAY
Entrepreneurial roots run deep
Annie’s entrepreneurial career started shortly after she completed her university studies in her native country of Colombia where she owned a medical lab for several years before moving her family with two sons to Edmonton, Alberta in 1999. She spent several years working in diabetic research at the University of Alberta, until she felt a calling to work with children. After getting the appropriate qualifications in place, Annie owned and operated a daycare and out of school care centre for several years. Following that, Annie recognized the need for toxic free baby skin products and thought of her sister Lyda’s “special rash cream”. Lyda, a registered nurse with a specialization in infancy, had formulated and used her own special cream for babies and bed-ridden patients with great effectiveness and success for over 20 years in Colombia. Annie asked her sister if we could develop a product from it and sell it here in Canada. Of course Lyda agreed. Annie thought of her friend Olga and here we are sharing our beginnings with you.
OLGA CLAVIER
A heart and mind for business ownership
Olga’s background is in the pharmaceutical field where she has a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy. Olga is originally from Venezuela and, like Annie, moved her family and two sons to Edmonton, Alberta. Once settled in Canada, Olga completed her Master’s Degree in food science and nutrition at the University of Alberta. It was during that time she met Annie while their sons were playing soccer. Following that, Olga worked in the skin care, retail industry for many years with Canadian companies such as Murale and the French company Sephora gaining valuable experience in the beauty and personal care industry. Olga left the industry to become a business owner, and bought two businesses, one of which she has since sold, the other is a burgeoning service business she continues to oversee. She is of course thrilled to be in business with Annie and together they are planning for Olan Wellness’s next line of products.
